Resort pool in Brisbane by Norfolk Pools

The design brief was initially to create a lap pool for the owners to do some light exercise in the privacy of their home. At the on-site consultations, it was clear that the owners were avid entertainers and gardeners, so we took the initiative to provide a secondary design incorporating several outdoor living rooms, including a sunken bar, outdoor kitchen, and lounge, which our client fell in love with.

PROJECT – REDLAND BAY

Norfolk Pools Redland Bay Project 01
The infinity edge creates a seamless look across the pool to the stunning ocean views. With a Quartzon finish, this brilliant blue pool is the epitome of island resort-style pools.

To limit pool fencing, the pool is 1.2m out of ground on the far side of the pool, the coping tiles are laid in an irregular brick bond which meant every tile had to be cut to suit the bond and the curved pool coping. The decks are constructed using natural and aged cedar to eventually achieve a silver-grey appearance. A mix of gold and white pebble for the pool interior gives an aqua colour to the water, complemented with newly planted fruiting olive trees and an open industrial timber roof with stainless wires for vines to grow along.

PROJECT – PADDINGTON

Norfolk Pools Paddington Project 01
The family were looking to create a little piece of paradise in their own yard. This would be undertaken in two stages, with the pool and retaining being the first stage, while a gazebo would be added at a later date. The idea was to minimise the amount of pool fencing to keep the open resort feel to their pool. Using the pool height, negative edge, and pond to form part of the safety barrier, we achieved a stunning result. Glass tiling and stacked stone features with planter boxes give a tropical feel to this geometric pool.

PROJECT – BARDON

Norfolk Pools Bardon Project 01
This was a particularly interesting project to start. The client’s architect had some ideas that they presented to us but were changed when we viewed the property. There was only a narrow space between the deck and the side boundary, and although there was plenty of length, there was a 6m fall from one end of the deck to the other. The challenge was to maximise the use of the backyard while making the design as inviting as possible.

Due to the narrow width available, it did not make sense to lower the pool height away from the deck, as too much would be lost in staircases and the view over the water would be lost. For this reason, the pool was built to match the existing deck height, meaning at the highest point it was 3.8m out of ground, requiring retaining and careful engineering before we could start on the pool itself. We, as the builder, submitted a design that would give optimum use of the pool but also give the pool something that would make it a little unusual, which was done by using a negative edge on one end with a sunken deck that had timber benches that doubled as storage.

PROJECT – PADDINGTON

Norfolk Pools Paddington Project 01
Built in the inner city, access and yard space was limited but the location lent itself to a pool that would become the focus of the house and create a functional space out of a backyard that was otherwise unusable. With two sides of negative edge and a beautifully tiled overflow wall, it has become an inviting area that has opened the whole yard up for entertaining in a tranquil environment.
